WHAT PERSONAL INFORMATION DO WE COLLECT FROM THE PEOPLE THAT VISIT OUR WEBSITE?
Comments. When visitors leave comments on the website, we collect the data shown in the comments form, as well as the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.
An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.
If you have voluntarily provided CP with potentially personally identifiable information, CP may use that information to respond to your comment, suggestion, or question. In aggregate, the information may be used to count the number of people corresponding with us via the contact page or email.
CP uses Akismet anti-spam service, which collects information about visitors who comment. The information collected typically includes the commenter’s IP address, user agent, referrer, and site URL, along with other information directly provided by the commenter, such as their name, username, email address, and the comment itself.
Media. If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.
Contact and Email Subscription Forms. If you fill out the email subscription form, your data will be collected and stored by both CP and Constant Contact, the third-party email service CP uses to send newsletters and announcements. It will never be sold or give to any other third parties.
Cookies. WordPress uses cookies for commenting and contact forms. If you leave a comment on our website, you may opt in to saving your name, email address, and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.
If you are browsing our site, data is being collected such as browser type, device, and IP address for our web analytics services, Google Analytics and AddThis. This data is used to improve our website’s services.
Embedded Content from Other Websites. Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website. These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracing your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.
Analytics. We use Google Analytics and the AddThis Analytics to continuously improve our website for the users. These tools collect anonymous analytics data. For more information, see the AddThis Analytics Privacy Policy, the Google Analytics Privacy Policy, and read about what information Google Analytics collects.
WITH WHOM DO WE SHARE YOUR DATA?
If you subscribe to our newsletter, we share your data with Constant Contact, our email service. Limited data is also processed by Google Analytics and AddThis analytics as noted above.
HOW LONG DO WE RETAIN YOUR DATA?
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue. Email subscriber data is kept indefinitely by CP and Constant Contact. Unsubscribes are kept in a separate list so as to not accidentally re-add you to our emails. Google Analytics and AddThis Analytics data are kept indefinitely.
WHAT RIGHTS DO YOU HAVE OVER YOUR DATA?
If you have left comments on this site or subscribed to our email newsletter, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
WHERE DO WE SEND YOUR DATA?
If you subscribe to our email newsletter, your data is sent to our Constant Contact account. We store and process some of this data on our servers and database as well to perform quality assurance tasks. Some non-personal data is also processed by Google Analytics and AddThis Analytics. Visitor comments are checked through an automated spam detection service.
HOW DO WE PROTECT YOUR DATA?
CP protects your data by deleting unnecessary data and keeping data in password-protected locations accessible only by CP partners and employees. For more information on our third-party services, read about how Constant Contact protects data, how Google Analytics protects data, and how AddThis Analytics protects data.
WHAT DATA BREACH PROCEDURES DO WE HAVE IN PLACE?
CP routinely monitors website security and updates to third-party privacy policies. We work with web developer contractors who can be hired to assist with any data breaches.
